We know how much a dollar's worth
Or the distance of a mile.
But have you added up
The value of a smile?

We know the distance to the sun,
The size and weight of earth.
But have you ever thought about
How much a smile is worth?

We know the distance ot the moon,
To Mars and Jupiter,too.
But do we really understand,
What a cheery word can do?

The smile that you wore a year ago,
May still be working yet.
It may be doing someone good,
Someone you have never met.

Someone may be pressing on,
Believing life's worthwhile,
Because,along his dreary path,
Someone shared a smile.

The kindly word you speak today,
May lighten someone's sadness,
Or make them see that someone cares
And fill their heart with gladness.

So smile and say a cheery word
And brighten up the earth.
Beyond all human dreams of wealth,
These little things have worth.
